The Institute of the DNA Research,
supported by the Warsaw University and the Polish Crime Detection
Society, organized the Conference entitled "DNA evidence at
legal proceedings". The Conference was held 21-22 of November
2002 in Warszawa. Its purpose was to acquaint the representatives
of the Polish Justice System with the up-to-date knowledge on the
modern DNA analyses used at legal proceedings and court trials.
The lecturers showed also what was the nowadays practice of using
the DNA evidence and its influence onto the course of the legal
proceedings
The honorary patronage was held by the Polish Ministry of Justice
- the Prosecutor General.
The welcome speech was given by the Deputy Prosecutor General of
the Republic of Poland - PhD. Ryszard Stefanski.
The speech from the Polish Ministry of the Internal Affairs was
given by Mr. Andrzej Przemyski - Deputy Director of the Public Safety
Dpt. in the Ministry.
The participants were also welcomed by the representative of the
Polish President's Chancellery, who read the letter from Mrs. Barbara
Labuda - the Secretary of the State of the President's Cahncellery.
The opening lecture was given by Prof. Marian Filar from the Penalty
Law Department of Mikolaj Kopernik's University in Torun. Profesor
Filar also run the Conference and moderated the discussions related
to the lectures during the whole Conference.
The lectures were given by the top experts dealing with the problems
of usage of DNA analyses both from practical and theoretical point
of view.
The Institute of DNA Research wishes to thank the lecturers, the
participants and the media journalists for their participation.
We are happy that the Conference turned to be such a success and
we hope that it has helped a lot on promote the knowledge on the
usage of DNA evidence, which is becoming still stronger element
of legal proceedings.
